AOR Y2K COMPLIANCE

All of AOR products are Y2K compliant.   Why?   Because all of our wide band receivers, general coverage receivers, wireless modems, NAVTEX/ACARS decoders, band scopes, other communications equipment, software, and quartz crystal units do No Date Related Processing. That is, none of them include a calendar function.

Please rest assured that there will be no Y2K problems as far as your PC and software connected to AOR products are also Y2K compliant.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions and answers :

1. What is Y2K problem?

The Y2K issue arises from the practice of using two digits in software programs to designate the year. Using two digits rather than four was a way to conserve scarce memory resources. As we approach 2000, programmers recognize that any computer calculation involving a date beyond 1999 could yield incorrect answers. The issue is further complicated because 2000 is a leap year. Many older programs did not take this into account.

When the clock strikes midnight on January1, 2000, many of the computers that are not Y2K compliant will reset their internal clock to 1900. At midnight on February 29, 2000, some computers that are not Y2K compliant will set forward the date to March 1, 2000 not knowing 2000 is a leap year.

2. Does AOR use equipment which depends upon date calculations in manufacturing system?

No, our manufacturing system functions on the basis of manual inputting of date data.

3. Does AOR use business system which depends upon date calculations involving the year?

Yes, but we have started the implementation of replacing the PCs and/or software in use to Y2K compliant ones. This will be completed by September 9, 1999.

4. Has AOR named a Y2K Sponsor at senior level?

Please refer to question #6.

5. Has AOR appointed a dedicated Y2K program/project manager?

Please refer to question #6.

6. What internal checks have been carried out on AOR Y2K plans and activities?

Mr. Jun Oshima, Director/Executive Engineer of AOR, LTD., has been directing and carrying out all necessary and possible checks. The most recent check was done on January 25, 1999 and the future checks will be done every 3 months. During checks he identified some problem areas and ordered to implement corrective actions by September 9, 1999.

7. Has there been an external audit of AOR Y2K plans and activities?

No. We believe the plans and activities can be checked on our own.

8. Does AOR Action Plan include a survey of its suppliers?

Yes. We plan to complete all the survey including our suppliers by September 9, 1999.

9. Does AOR maintain electronic links with any external organizations which AOR use in the course of its business. Is AOR satisfied that links will not be affected by Y2K problem?

Yes. The only electronic links we have are with our banks. We plan to replace all the PCs linked and the software in cooperation with the banks.
